Lefkosa: Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz on Thursday condemned an attack targeting citizens of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) by members of the EOKA terrorist organization.

According to Anadolu Agency, Yilmaz expressed his condemnation on Turkish social media platform NSosyal, stating, "I condemn in the strongest terms the attack carried out yesterday in the Buffer Zone in Lefkosa by remnants of the terrorist organization EOKA, using stones and explosive materials against citizens of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus."

Yilmaz attributed the responsibility for Wednesday's attacks to the Greek Cypriot Administration. He criticized the administration for allegedly glorifying and heroizing individuals involved with EOKA, suggesting that they have influenced younger generations to view Turkish Cypriots as adversaries.

The vice president also affirmed Turkey's unwavering support for the TRNC in the face of such attacks. He emphasized Turkey's commitment to standing alongside the TRNC against these acts of aggression.

The incident took place on the Greek Cypriot-controlled side of Lefkosa, where groups had assembled to commemorate the founding anniversary of the EOKA organization. It was around noon when the attackers, armed with stones, sticks, and improvised explosives, launched their assault on civilians located on the TRNC side of the city.

EOKA was established in the 1950s by Greek Cypriot-origin Greek officer Georgios Grivas. The organization aimed to end Cyprus's status as a British crown colony and sought to unite the island with Greece through armed efforts. Following the end of British rule and the establishment of the Republic of Cyprus, EOKA carried out attacks targeting Turkish Cypriots and also targeted Greek Cypriots who opposed its ideology.
