Ankara: President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed received calls of solidarity from regional and international leaders, including Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, following reports of a second day of attacks from Iran. This development was reported by the state news agency WAM.
According to Anadolu Agency, Jordan's King Abdullah II, Netanyahu, and Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Masrour Barzani condemned the Iranian attacks targeting civilians and infrastructure in the UAE. They expressed their solidarity with the UAE and pledged support for measures to ensure the nation's security and stability.
The UAE Ministry of Defense reported that it had intercepted missile and drone attacks from Iran for two consecutive days. However, Iran's military denied involvement in any recent attacks on the UAE, stating that any operations by Iranian forces would be explicitly announced. Iran warned of decisive retaliation if attacked from the UAE.
In related developments, US President Donald Trump announced a temporary pause in US military operations escorting ships through the Strait of Hormuz. This decision is part of ongoing efforts to reach a comprehensive agreement with Iran while maintaining sanctions to test the feasibility of a final deal.
The region has been tense since US and Israeli strikes on Iran in late February, which led to Iranian retaliation and disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz. A ceasefire mediated by Pakistan took effect in April, but talks failed to secure a lasting agreement. The truce was extended by Trump without a specific deadline, and a US naval blockade has been in place since mid-April to restrict Iranian maritime activity in the area.
