Ukraine Claims 30 Injured in Russian Strike on Shostka Railway Station

Shostka: At least 30 people were injured in an alleged Russian strike targeting a railway station and passenger trains in the city of Shostka, Ukraine's northeastern Sumy region, Ukrainian officials said on Saturday.

According to Anadolu Agency, Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko reported that the attack hit both the railway station and passenger trains, describing it as 'a double targeted strike.' She mentioned that rescuers, medics, and railway workers are actively working at the scene to assist the victims and assess the damage.

Svyrydenko accused Moscow of deliberately attacking civilian infrastructure and crowded areas, emphasizing the global responsibility to respond. She called for increased air defense systems for Ukraine, tougher sanctions against Russia, and decisive actions from international partners to halt Russian aggression and protect lives.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also condemned the attack, labeling it as 'a savage Russian drone strike.' He highlighted that the attack targeted civilians and stressed the importance of global acknowledgment and response to such acts. Zelenskyy noted that the injured included Ukrzaliznytsia railway staff and passengers.

Furthermore, Zelenskyy urged Ukraine's partners to move beyond verbal condemnation and take strong, concrete actions, asserting that mere words are insufficient in the current situation.

The Ukrainian national railway company confirmed that a drone struck a passenger train on the Shostka-Kyiv route, further corroborating the extent of the attack's impact.
