Kyiv: Ukraine on Monday announced that it had successfully struck a drone launch site in Russia's border region of Kursk, a location previously noted for an incursion last August.

According to Anadolu Agency, the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces issued a statement revealing that the Ukrainian air force carried out the strike on Saturday. The targeted site is near the village of Tetkino, close to the Ukraine-Russia border in the northeastern Sumy region. The statement alleged that the facility was utilized by Russia to launch different types of drones into Ukraine, and claimed that up to 20 Russian drone operators were killed in the operation.

"This strike of ours is a tangible response to the enemy's actions against the Ukrainian army," the statement added. The Ukrainian military emphasized its intent to continue targeting Russian military infrastructure until "a just peace" is achieved.

There was no immediate response from Russian authorities regarding the claim. The development occurs amidst increasing pressure from the United States for a ceasefire in the ongoing conflict, which has persisted for over three years.

US President Donald Trump expressed on Sunday his hope that Russia and Ukraine "will make a deal this week," highlighting international calls for resolution and peace.
