Ukraine Ready to Accept 30-Day Ceasefire with Russia Amid Talks in Saudi Arabia

Ankara: Ukraine on Tuesday conveyed its readiness to accept a 30-day ceasefire with Russia, as delegations from Kyiv and Washington met in Saudi Arabia.

According to Anadolu Agency, Ukraine expressed its willingness to accept the US proposal for an immediate, interim 30-day ceasefire, which could be extended by mutual agreement and is contingent upon acceptance and concurrent implementation by the Russian Federation. This was articulated in a joint statement released after discussions held in Jeddah.

The statement highlighted that both nations took significant steps to restore “durable peace” for Ukraine, with Washington tasked to communicate to Russia the necessity for Moscow’s cooperation to achieve a settlement.

The statement also mentioned that the US will promptly lift the pause on its intelligence sharing with Ukraine and resume security assistance to Kyiv. The Ukrainian delegation emphasized that Kyiv’s European partners should be included in the peace process.

“Both delegations agreed to name their negotiating teams and immediately begin negotiations toward an enduring peace that provides for Ukraine’s long-term security,” the statement emphasized, underscoring the importance of humanitarian relief efforts as part of the peace process, particularly during the proposed ceasefire.

Lastly, both countries’ presidents agreed to swiftly conclude a comprehensive agreement for developing Ukraine’s critical mineral resources, aiming to expand Ukraine’s economy and ensure its long-term prosperity and security.

This meeting between the US and Ukrainian delegations followed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s arrival in the Gulf country, where he engaged in talks with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
