Washington: US President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday his decision to purchase a 'brand new Tesla' as a gesture of support for Elon Musk, a prominent ally, amidst ongoing protests against Musk's electric car company.
According to Anadolu Agency, President Trump expressed his support for Musk on the Truth Social platform, acknowledging Musk's efforts to aid the nation. Trump described Musk's work as "FANTASTIC" and criticized what he referred to as "Radical Left Lunatics" for attempting to "illegally and collusively boycott Tesla," which he perceives as an attack on both Musk and his values.
In response to the protests and to demonstrate his confidence in Musk, Trump stated, "I'm going to buy a brand new Tesla tomorrow morning as a show of confidence and support for Elon Musk, a truly great American."
The protests have intensified since Musk took the helm of Trump's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), where he is overseeing significant reductions in the federal workforce. Recent incidents include vandalism against Tesla vehicles and an arrest of a woman accused of attempting to set fire to a Tesla dealership in Colorado.
Trump questioned the rationale behind the protests, asking, "Why should he be punished for putting his tremendous skills to work in order to help MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN?"
Meanwhile, Tesla has been experiencing declining sales in crucial markets. Recent data indicates that Tesla registrations in Europe dropped by 45% year-over-year in January. Additionally, Musk's net worth has decreased by over $100 billion since mid-December, primarily due to a significant drop in Tesla's stock price.
The controversy has prompted some Tesla owners to place stickers on their vehicles that read: "I bought it before Elon went nuts."
