Ankara: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Tuesday said that Ukraine considered Washington’s proposal for a 30-day ceasefire with Russia as ‘positive.’ Earlier, delegations from the US and Ukraine began talks in the Saudi city of Jeddah to discuss prospects for a possible peace deal with Russia, after which a joint statement declared Kyiv’s readiness to accept the US proposal to enact an “immediate, interim” 30-day ceasefire.
According to Anadolu Agency, in a video address, Zelenskyy said that the Ukrainian delegation reported to him about the talks, which he defined as ‘constructive.’ He emphasized Ukraine’s long-standing desire for peace and the efforts being made to achieve it in a reliable manner.
Zelenskyy outlined three proposals from Ukraine for the meeting, focusing on halting the conflict at sea and in the air, and establishing measures to build confidence in the situation. The US proposed an immediate 30-day ceasefire encompassing missiles, drones, bombs, and actions along the entire frontline, which Ukraine accepted.
Zelenskyy expressed that Ukraine is ready to take the step towards peace and urged the US to convince Russia to agree to the ceasefire. He also mentioned discussions regarding the restoration of US defense assistance and intelligence support to Ukraine, underscoring the need for time to prepare for lasting security guarantees.
He concluded by stating that Ukraine is prepared for peace and challenged Russia to demonstrate its willingness to end the conflict.
