US B-1 Bombers Withdrawn from UK Amid Security Concerns

Fairford:The United States has removed all B-1 bombers from RAF Fairford air base in the UK following a suspected security threat. The Wall Street Journal reported that the removal occurred after a security incident at the facility.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Pentagon confirmed that all US bombers stationed at RAF Fairford have been redeployed to their home bases in the United States.

This redeployment of a dozen B-1 strategic aircraft took place after British counter-terrorism police arrested six individuals connected to a planned attack on the base. The attack was reportedly disrupted last Sunday by US and British officials.

On September 27, police detained five British men near RAF Fairford after observing three suspicious vans. These suspects have been released on bail but remain under investigation.

Furthermore, on October 1, a 25-year-old British-Iranian dual citizen was arrested by counterterrorism officers on suspicion of preparing terrorist acts related to the incident.

UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham commented on the situation, indicating "strong indications" of Iranian involvement. However, he emphasized that the investigation by the police is still ongoing. Tehran has firmly denied any links to the thwarted operation.

RAF Fairford has served as a crucial staging hub for the US to conduct bomber strikes during the Iran war.
