Washington: US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick stated Tuesday that a trade agreement has been reached with a country and that approval is awaited for the announcement of the agreement, CNBC reported.

According to Anadolu Agency, Lutnick expressed optimism about the deal, emphasizing that while the agreement is finalized, it requires the foreign nation's prime minister and parliament's approval before any official announcement can be made. Lutnick refrained from disclosing the country's name involved in the agreement.

Lutnick noted that there are countries still working through the finer details of their agreements and that these nations must go through their own internal processes. He clarified that his role does not involve direct interactions with China, indicating that Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent handles such discussions.

The announcement follows a series of trade-related moves by the Trump administration, including a significant increase in tariffs announced by President Donald Trump on April 2. While these tariffs were postponed for 90 days for most countries, China's tariff rate was raised to as much as 245% on certain products.

The Trump administration has mentioned that numerous countries have shown interest in negotiating trade deals in recent weeks. However, no specific agreements have been publicly disclosed. Japan, South Korea, and India are among the countries speculated to be potential partners in future trade deals.
