Seoul: The US has deployed F-35 fighter jets to the Korean Peninsula to participate in a combined summertime exercise with South Korea, local media reported on Monday. The deployment includes 10 F-35 variants and coincides with the 11-day annual Ulchi Freedom Shield exercise, according to Yonhap News Agency.

According to Anadolu Agency, the exercise is scheduled to conclude on Thursday. Both the F-35A and F-35B models, which are operated by the US Air Force and the US Marine Corps respectively, have been temporarily stationed at Kunsan Air Base. An official from US Forces Korea confirmed the deployment.

During their stay, the F-35 fighter jets will engage in training exercises with South Korean forces. The focus will be on defensive counter-air maneuvers and strengthening operational integrity. The collaboration aims to enhance the combined readiness of US and South Korean forces and deter potential threats in the region.
