Washington dc: Federal authorities have successfully apprehended 465 individuals as part of an extensive crime operation that commenced on August 7. This was announced by White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt on Tuesday.

According to Anadolu Agency, the latest overnight operation resulted in 52 arrests, including an MS-13 gang member with prior convictions for driving while intoxicated and drug possession. Leavitt emphasized the commitment to ensuring that dangerous gang members are not allowed to roam freely in the nation's capital.

The arrests from the overnight operation also included charges for serious offenses such as assault with a deadly weapon, parole violations for robbery and murder, and warrants for attempted murder. Additional charges included assault on federal law enforcement officers and felony assault.

Authorities have also been active in addressing homelessness in the area, with Leavitt noting the removal of four homeless encampments recently. This brings the total number of cleared encampments in Washington DC to 48 since the operation's inception.

US Attorney General Pam Bondi shared on US social media platform X that nine firearms were confiscated overnight. Since the beginning of the mission, a total of 68 guns have been seized. Bondi stated that nearly half of the arrests took place in areas of Washington DC known for high crime rates, underscoring the increased safety in the nation's capital.

The operation is a response to US President Donald Trump's August declaration of a "crime emergency" in Washington DC. This initiative placed the Metropolitan Police Department under federal control and led to the deployment of 800 National Guard troops to enhance street patrols.
