Washington: US import prices decreased 0.4% in July, while export prices dropped 1.3% on a monthly basis, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Tuesday.
According to Anadolu Agency, despite the monthly decline, prices for US imports increased 5.9% from July 2025 to July 2026, with export prices soaring 8.2% over the same period. The Bureau of Labor Statistics highlighted that this increase reflects broader trends in global trade and economic conditions.
The bureau further detailed that prices for imported fuel fell 7.2% in July. This follows a decrease of 3.8% in June and an increase of 12.1% in May, showcasing volatility in fuel pricing. "Lower prices for petroleum and petroleum products more than offset higher prices for natural gas," the bureau stated, noting a 7.5% decline in prices for imported petroleum and petroleum products, while imported natural gas prices increased by 5.3%.
From July 2025 to July 2026, fuel prices saw a significant increase of 25.2%. The price index for petroleum and petroleum products advanced 26.3%, while natural gas prices surged 74.3% during the same period, indicating substantial fluctuations in energy markets.
Additionally, prices for nonfuel imports rose 0.4% in July on a monthly basis. Over the year from July 2025 to July 2026, nonfuel import prices increased 4.5%, marking the largest over-the-year advance since June 2022, as reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
