US Peace Proposal Sparks EU’s Firm Stance on Ukrainian Involvement

Brussels: European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Antonio Costa on Friday emphasized the importance of Ukraine's involvement in any peace negotiations, asserting that there should be "nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine" after a discussion with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy regarding the US peace proposal.

According to Anadolu Agency, the European leaders shared their views on social media platform X, reiterating Europe's commitment to standing with Ukraine and advocating for a just and sustainable peace. They outlined their future plans to further discuss the matter with other European leaders at the upcoming G20 meeting and at the EU-AU meeting in Angola.

The US-backed peace proposal reportedly includes conditions such as Ukraine renouncing its NATO membership ambitions, recognizing Crimea, Donetsk, and Luhansk as under Russian control, and withdrawing forces to establish a demilitarized zone in Donbas. In exchange, Ukraine would receive security guarantees based on NATO's collective defense principle.
