New York:US federal prosecutors have agreed to pause and dismiss criminal charges against Sue Mi Terry, a former CIA analyst accused of acting as a foreign agent. This decision came to light following a court agreement made public, which outlines a 12-month deferred prosecution.
According to Anadolu Agency, the agreement filed in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York states that the charges will remain deferred pending Terry's compliance with certain conditions. These include not communicating with South Korea's National Intelligence Service employees, seeking approval for interactions with South Korean officials, avoiding foreign gifts over $100, and restricting her travel outside the continental US.
The charges against Terry, which include conspiracy and violations of the Foreign Agents Registration Act, were set to be tried in Manhattan federal court. The indictment alleged that Terry secretly promoted South Korean policies, shared confidential US information, and enabled access for foreign officials to US personnel, in exchange for luxury items and financial incentives.
Terry, who has consistently denied the allegations, previously held roles at the CIA and the White House National Security Council.
