Tunis: US veterans joined the Global Sumud Flotilla to push their government to end complicity in the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip.

According to Anadolu Agency, eight U.S. veterans have joined the Global Sumud Flotilla, defying the same war machine they once served. The organization announced this in a statement on the US social media company X on Thursday. The flotilla praised the participation of US veterans in this global mission, highlighting their transition from 'fighting wars of the empire to fighting for the oppressed.'

The statement further emphasized that citizens across the United States are calling out complicity, demanding an arms embargo, and organizing for justice. The veterans are seen as a reminder that solidarity requires action and that true service is standing with the people of Palestine. The US veterans embarked on their journey to Gaza with a clear message: 'End genocide, end complicity, and free Palestine.'

Since September 13, many vessels have been leaving Tunisian and Greek ports to assemble near Malta before collectively heading towards the Palestinian enclave, as reported by the International Committee to Break the Israeli Siege of Gaza. This current convoy is noted as the largest of its kind, aiming to challenge the blockade and deliver humanitarian aid to Palestinians in Gaza, who are suffering from famine conditions due to Israel's prolonged closure of all crossings.

The situation in Gaza has been dire, with the Israeli army having killed over 65,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children, since October 2023. The continuous bombardment has left the enclave uninhabitable, leading to starvation and the spread of diseases.
