Taiz:Yemeni government forces announced the capture of a key mountain peak in Taiz province following clashes with the Houthi group.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Nation's Shield Forces stated on the social media platform X that their troops secured the highest peak in Jabal Habashi district as part of ongoing military operations in the area.

This development comes amid a series of military actions in the province. Earlier, the Nation's Shield Forces initiated a large-scale offensive against the Houthis in Taiz's Al-Wazi'iyah district under the broader Operation 'Dawn of Yemen.'

Yemen's Presidential Leadership Council Chairman Rashad al-Alimi had declared the operation with the objective of reclaiming the capital Sanaa and restoring state institutions from Houthi control.

Additionally, Yemeni government forces reported the recapture of the Red Sea port city of Mokha and the strategic Bab el-Mandeb area. However, the Houthis have denied losing these territories.

This recent escalation marks one of the most significant bouts of fighting since a UN-brokered truce in April 2022, which had brought a period of relative calm to the war-torn nation. Yemen's conflict began in 2014 when the Houthis seized Sanaa, leading to the intervention of a Saudi-led coalition in support of the internationally recognized government.
