Yemeni Government Launches Military Operations to Reclaim Houthi Territory

Ankara:The Yemeni government has commenced extensive military operations to reclaim areas held by the Houthis, as announced by Rashad Al-Alimi, Chairman of Yemen's Presidential Leadership Council. The operations aim to regain control over the entire country.

According to Anadolu Agency, Al-Alimi stated in a televised speech that the armed forces, security forces, and all military formations have been instructed to execute their tasks under a sanctioned plan until the nation is liberated from Houthi control. All state institutions are on high alert as the mission progresses towards achieving victory.

The Yemeni army has confirmed the initiation of the 'battle for liberation' to terminate the Houthi coup that started in September 2014. Military spokesman Colonel Majid al-Nuzaili, in a video statement, emphasized the operations' goals to reclaim state territory, assert national sovereignty, and eliminate Houthi dominance.

Al-Nuzaili assured the commitment of the armed forces to protecting civilians throughout all regions and provinces. He called on Houthi fighters to surrender their weapons and return home, highlighting that the homeland welcomes all its sons who choose the right path.

He described the battle as pivotal for returning Yemen to its Arab identity and strategic depth among its regional allies. Al-Nuzaili also acknowledged the supportive roles of coalition partners who uphold Yemen's interests and its people's welfare.

The conflict in Yemen has persisted since the Houthis captured the capital, Sanaa, and several provinces in 2014, leading to a Saudi-led coalition intervention in 2015 supporting the internationally recognized government. A truce established in 2022 collapsed in July, resulting in renewed fighting.
