Yemeni Soldiers Killed Amid Escalating Conflict in Lahj Province

Accra:Lahj Eight Yemeni soldiers were killed in the southern province of Lahj, as announced by the army late Saturday. The deaths occurred amid ongoing clashes with the Houthi group.

According to Anadolu Agency, the army-affiliated Tur al-Bahah Military Axis reported that the soldiers died on the al-Maqatirah front in Lahj. No additional details were provided, and the Houthis have not commented on the incident.

Earlier on Saturday, Houthi shelling in the neighboring Taiz province resulted in the deaths of three civilians, including two women, and injured five others in separate incidents, as reported by a government office.

These developments are part of a military escalation that began in July, marking the most significant increase in hostilities since a period of relative calm following a UN-brokered truce initiated in April 2022. The conflict in Yemen has persisted since the Houthis took control of the capital Sanaa and several provinces in September 2014, leading to a Saudi-led coalition intervention in March 2015 to support the internationally recognized government.
