Tel Aviv:With the closure of polls in Israel and the political landscape in flux, Yisrael Beiteinu party leader Avigdor Liberman has made a bold call for a rebellion within the Likud party against its leader, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
According to Anadolu Agency – English, Liberman accused Netanyahu of acting like the leader of a "criminal organization" and crossing all red lines. Liberman urged his Likud colleagues to voice their concerns and push for Netanyahu's departure from the political scene.
Liberman's call for rebellion is significant as he opposes forming a minority government with support from Arab lawmakers. His strategy appears to be aimed at forming a government led by Gadi Eisenkot by attracting center-right Likud lawmakers and distancing them from Netanyahu.
Liberman's move could enable Eisenkot's bloc, which includes Yisrael Beiteinu, to form a parliamentary majority without relying on Arab party support. Meanwhile, election turnout hit 77.7%, the highest since 1999, with exit polls showing Netanyahu's bloc ahead, but no majority secured.
Official election results are expected on November 4.
