Beirut: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on Tuesday that he had a 'good' meeting with US President Donald Trump in the Oval Office. According to Anadolu Agency, Zelenskyy expressed gratitude on the US social media platform X, thanking Trump for their collaborative efforts aimed at protecting Ukrainian lives and advancing peace. He also extended condolences for the passing of Senator Lindsey Graham, whom he described as a 'true friend of Ukraine.'

During the meeting, Zelenskyy and Trump discussed the production licenses for Patriot interceptor systems and other ideas that could bolster their defense collaboration. Zelenskyy emphasized the need to reinvigorate diplomatic processes and mentioned that both teams would work on arranging further communication. He expressed his appreciation for the unwavering support from the US.

Zelenskyy arrived in the US earlier on Tuesday to attend Senator Graham's funeral service. He is also scheduled to meet with Finnish President Alexander Stubb and a bipartisan group of US senators as the Senate prepares for its first vote on the Lindsey O. Graham Sanctions Act targeting Russia and Iran. Highlighting the priorities of his visit, Zelenskyy stated that anti-ballistic defense and strategic cooperation with the US are crucial for bringing peace closer.

The Oval Office meeting between Zelenskyy and Trump lasted about an hour and was closed to media coverage, as reported by Ukrainian public broadcaster Suspilne. This meeting comes after their previous encounter in July on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Ankara.

White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt described the meetings with Zelenskyy and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as 'positive and productive.' Meanwhile, US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are set to visit Kyiv to provide momentum to peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. This mission is anticipated to occur in approximately two weeks, although the precise details are yet to be finalized.
