Ankara: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced his upcoming visit to Washington, DC, to meet with US President Donald Trump to discuss critical details on ending the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Zelenskyy highlighted the importance of this meeting in a post on the social media platform X, following a phone call with Trump that later included European leaders.

According to Anadolu Agency, the conversation between Zelenskyy and Trump was described as extensive and focused on key issues. Trump briefed Zelenskyy on his recent meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska, where the two leaders discussed the Ukraine situation. Zelenskyy reaffirmed Ukraine's commitment to achieving peace and emphasized the impact of US involvement.

Zelenskyy expressed support for Trump's proposal for a trilateral meeting involving Ukraine, the USA, and Russia, asserting that direct discussions at the leadership level are essential. He also stressed the need for Europe's active participation to ensure lasting security guarantees for Ukraine.

During Trump's meeting with Putin, the leaders reportedly made some progress but did not reach a conclusive agreement to end the Ukraine war. This summit marked the first high-level discussion between US and Russian presidents since the conflict began in February 2022.

Zelenskyy further detailed Ukraine's position in subsequent communications with European leaders. He emphasized the urgent need to halt hostilities and called for stronger sanctions on Moscow if a trilateral meeting does not occur. Zelenskyy reiterated that Ukraine must be involved in all discussions related to its territories and future.
