Brussels: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated on Tuesday that his country, along with its Western allies, has successfully defended the freedom of all European nations during an extraordinary session of the European Parliament. The session marked the 1,000th day since the beginning of the Russia-Ukraine conflict. According to Anadolu Agency, Zelenskyy emphasized in a video address to the European Parliament that the collective efforts of Ukraine, Europe, and international partners have not only thwarted Russian President Vladimir Putin's ambitions in Ukraine but have also safeguarded the freedom of European countries. He thanked European Parliament President Roberta Metsola for ensuring that European values have been preserved throughout the conflict. Zelenskyy highlighted the unified strength of Europe, asserting that even with North Korean President Kim Jong Un's support, Putin remains weaker than a united Europe. He urged members of the European Parliament to remember Europe's potential achiev ements and the importance of continued solidarity. The Ukrainian leader reiterated his commitment to peace, referencing the 10-step peace formula he proposed at the 2022 G20 summit in Indonesia. He pointed out that Russia remains the sole opponent to this plan and called for stronger sanctions against Russia. Zelenskyy also warned of the potential increase of North Korean troops near the Ukraine border, suggesting numbers could reach 100,000. He cautioned European nations against compromising with Moscow, stating that no country can find peace amidst ongoing conflict. He concluded by stressing the need for a fair resolution to the war and expressed hope that the upcoming year could be marked as the "year of peace" for Ukraine after enduring 1,000 days of conflict.
