Ankara: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has urged for increased defense cooperation and unified diplomatic efforts amidst the ongoing conflict with Russia. Addressing the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) Member States Summit, Zelenskyy emphasized the need for Russia to accept a ceasefire as a fundamental step towards a credible peace process.
According to Anadolu Agency, Zelenskyy announced Ukraine's readiness for a solid 30-day ceasefire and highlighted the necessity of international pressure on Moscow to achieve this goal. He warned of the need for stronger sanctions should Russia violate the ceasefire once established.
Zelenskyy confirmed ongoing coordination with US President Donald Trump and expressed appreciation for the recent diplomatic engagements with Washington. He stressed the importance of maintaining discreet diplomatic efforts to ensure the success of peace initiatives.
He also mentioned preparations for a high-level meeting with the Coalition of the Willing, a group of nations supporting Ukraine's security. He highlighted the critical role of robust collective security guarantees for European stability and mutual defense.
Acknowledging the support from JEF countries, Zelenskyy thanked them for their contributions, including investments in Ukraine's weapons production and joint efforts in training, intelligence, and cyber defense. He emphasized the need for cooperation to protect vital infrastructure such as energy, communication, and transport.
Zelenskyy expressed Ukraine's anticipation of receiving Enhanced Partnership status within the JEF, viewing it as a step towards deeper integration and lasting security. He reiterated the strength of mutual reliance among nations.
The summit in Lviv saw the gathering of delegations from 35 countries and the Council of Europe to discuss further support for Ukraine and the establishment of a special tribunal to prosecute senior Russian officials for their "crime of aggression" against Ukraine. The meeting coincided with Russia's annual Victory Day military parade in Moscow, marking the 80th anniversary of the Soviet victory in World War II.
