Kyiv: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Tuesday engaged in a phone conversation with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, focusing on a substantial multi-billion euro aid package and ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving peace.

According to Anadolu Agency, the dialogue emphasized the importance of maintaining pressure on Russia to secure peace through collective efforts from all international partners. Following the call, Zelenskyy expressed his appreciation for the European Council's recent decision to implement a £90 billion ($106.4 billion) financial assistance framework for Ukraine, covering the years 2026-2027.

Zelenskyy described the European Union's involvement as critical during what he referred to as a "decisive diplomatic moment" for Ukraine. The discussion with von der Leyen was centered on enhancing Ukraine's resilience and fortifying its stance in ongoing peace negotiations.

Despite the approach of the holiday season, Zelenskyy highlighted the ongoing collaborative efforts between Kyiv and its allies to achieve lasting peace and ensure regional security. The leaders committed to maintaining regular communication in the coming days as diplomatic efforts gain momentum.

Additionally, Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to von der Leyen for the European Union's unwavering support since the onset of the full-scale conflict.
