Munich: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced that Kyiv is pursuing long-term security guarantees from the United States, aiming for a duration of at least 30 years to ensure stability for international investors.
According to Anadolu Agency, Zelenskyy shared this position during discussions with reporters at the Munich Security Conference. He noted that while the United States has proposed a 15-year term for these guarantees, Ukraine is advocating for an extended timeframe, ranging from 30 to 50 years, depending on the decisions made by the US administration and Congress.
Zelenskyy emphasized that short-term guarantees of five to ten years would be insufficient to provide the necessary reassurance to investors, who are seeking more enduring security commitments. He expressed hope that the ongoing conflict with Russia would conclude within the year, while observing that Russia might be shifting its diplomatic strategies.
Zelenskyy highlighted that Russia has altered its negotiation team, now led by Medinsky, which may indicate an intention to delay decisions. He further mentioned that Russian President Vladimir Putin is focused on taking control of the entire Donbas region to present a victory to the Russian populace.
Regarding prisoners of war, Zelenskyy indicated a potential for an 'all-for-all' exchange, contingent on Moscow's agreement. He reported that Russia is detaining approximately 7,000 Ukrainian soldiers, while Ukraine holds over 4,000 Russian troops. Discussing the military dynamics in eastern Ukraine, Zelenskyy reaffirmed Kyiv's stance on maintaining territorial integrity.
