Tel aviv: Israeli rights group B'Tselem said Tuesday that 47 Palestinian families face the risk of imminent displacement in the Jordan Valley in the northern West Bank after the army and occupiers cut water supplies to their homes.
According to Anadolu Agency, B'Tselem released a statement highlighting that these families, comprising more than 300 people with nearly half being children, are at risk of losing their homes. This situation arose after Israeli forces and occupiers cut the last remaining water pipes supplying the communities of Ras al-Ahmar, Al-Thaala, and eastern Atouf.
The rights group emphasized that the affected families rely heavily on agriculture and livestock for their livelihoods, making the water cutoff a severe threat to their survival. It also noted that Israeli forces often prevent water from being transported to the area, exacerbating the crisis.
B'Tselem further pointed out that these repeated attacks on water infrastructure appear to be part of an effort to displace the remaining Palestinian communities. This action coincides with ongoing excavation work to construct a separation barrier in the northern Jordan Valley, which could have dire consequences for Palestinian-owned farmland.
The group cautioned that the wall route, announced by the Israeli army about a year ago, extends nearly 22 kilometers from Ein Shibli to the Tayasir checkpoint area. It cuts through lands belonging to Palestinian communities, affecting orchards, greenhouses, wells, and water networks.
B'Tselem warned that the wall is expected to isolate residents from their land and enable the seizure of approximately 50,000 dunams. Since the excavation work began in March, severe damage has been reported, including the uprooting of olive trees, destruction of crops and greenhouses, demolition of irrigation lines, and damage to farmland critical for residents' livelihoods.
Additionally, the rights group reported an increase in occupier attacks on Palestinian communities along the wall route. It highlighted that the Israeli army and occupiers have intensified their actions against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank since the Gaza war outbreak in October 2023.
The situation has forced dozens of Palestinians from several West Bank communities to leave their areas due to Israeli military measures and occupier attacks, as noted by Palestinian, Israeli, and international rights reports.
