Labour Minister takes part in international meetings on work and social policy

Minister of Labour and Social Insurance, Yiannis Panagiotou, will participate in international meetings focusing on labour and social policy this week.

According to an official press release, today, Monday, he will attend the Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumer Affairs Council (EPSCO) in Luxembourg. Following that, he will travel to Geneva for the 111th Annual Session of the International Labour Organization (ILO), taking place from June 5th to June 16th.

The main topics to be discussed at the Council include the establishment of a monitoring tool for developments in employment and social protection, the social convergence framework, and the EU's policy priorities for the year. Additionally the Council will look into ways to promote work on the directive proposal for combating discrimination and the directive proposal for improving employment conditions in digital labour platforms.

The ILO session will address a wide range of issues, such as promoting social justice, a fair transition to sustainable and inclusive economies, quality apprenticeships, and the protection of labour.

On June 13th, the Minister will address the plenary session, where the Director-General's Report on promoting social justice will be discussed.

Panagiotou will return to Cyprus on June 15th, 2023.
