Law Commissioner Louisa Christodoulides Zannetou held an online meeting with the Chairman of the Law Reform Commission of Ireland Justice Frank Clarke and Full Time Commissioner Richard Barrett on July 1. According to a press release, the meeting took place in the context of the cooperation launched between the Law Commissioner's Office and equivalent institutions of other countries with similar legal systems to Cyprus, as well as in the context of drawing on good practices and systems of other countries, which will contribute to the upgrading of the Law Commissioner's Office institution. It is added that the meeting was held as a follow-up to the visit the Law Commissioner's Office members to the Law Reform Commission of Ireland on 25/10/2023. As stated, the meeting focused on the legal framework on which the Law Reform Commission is based, analysing how the legal framework of the Law Commissioner's Office of the Republic of Cyprus could evolve with the ultimate aim of its institutionalisation, while spec ific reference was made to the way the Law Reform Commission works with the Attorney General and the Parliament and the way work is carried out in relation to the submission of proposals for law reform in Ireland and consultation papers, through which the public is also involved. It is added that the Commissioner presented the working methods of the Law Commissioner's Office in Cyprus and her general responsibilities, while a discussion took place on possible ways of cooperation between the two institutions, including, inter alia, cooperation on bills and studies concerning the same issues. On his part, Commissioner Barrett said that they look forward to cooperating with countries with similar legal systems, such as Cyprus, and formally invited the Law Commissioner to the 50th anniversary of the Law Reform Commission to be held next year in Ireland, an invitation which the Law Commissioner accepted, the press release concluded.
