The Salso river broke its banks in the Sicilian town of Licata near Agrigento on Saturday due to the incessant rain pummelling the area. Several residents abandoned their homes as a precautionary measure while others who were outdoors climbed on the roofs of cars while firefighters were carrying out a number of operations to rescue locals. The Sicilian civil protection unit is sending personnel to the area, as well as to other provinces hit by bad weather, along with firefighters from the Gela team. Source: Ansa News Agency
