Tel Aviv: The Israeli National Security Council on Sunday issued a warning to its citizens, advising them to steer clear of cultural and sporting events in Europe following a surge of violence in Amsterdam. The advisory specifically urges Israelis to "completely avoid games or cultural events involving Israeli participation over the next week." According to Anadolu Agency, tensions in Amsterdam escalated on Thursday after a soccer match between Maccabi Tel Aviv and Ajax Amsterdam. Fans of the Maccabi Tel Aviv team reportedly shouted racist and offensive slurs against Arabs, dismantled Palestinian flags, and incited disturbances in the aftermath of the game. Jazie Veldhuyzen, a senior city councilor in Amsterdam, commented on the situation on Saturday, stating that "Maccabi hooligans initiated attacks on homes displaying Palestinian flags and targeted pro-Palestinian residents of Amsterdam. That's when the violence began." This has prompted Israeli authorities to issue the warning, aiming to prevent further incidents and ensure the safety of its citizens abroad.
