Saudi Arabia Establishes Commission to Oversee 2034 World Cup Preparations

RIYADH: Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has announced the formation of a higher commission to oversee the preparations for the 2034 FIFA World Cup, which Saudi Arabia will host. This decision marks a significant step in the kingdom's efforts to organize the global football tournament. According to Anadolu Agency, the Saudi state news agency SPA reported that the supreme commission, chaired by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, was established to ensure the successful execution of the event. The creation of the commission signifies Saudi Arabia's dedication to hosting an unprecedented version of the World Cup, which will, for the first time, see 48 teams from all continents participating. Saudi Arabia's successful bid makes it the second Middle Eastern nation to host the prestigious international tournament, following Qatar's hosting in 2022. The matches are set to take place across 15 stadiums located in five cities: Riyadh, Jeddah, Khobar, Abha, and Neom. The FIFA World Cup, held every four years si nce its inception in 1930, is the premier international men's football competition. The tournament was not held in 1942 and 1946 due to the Second World War. The 2034 event will mark the first time the tournament expands to include 48 teams, reflecting FIFA's ongoing efforts to increase the global reach and inclusivity of the competition.
