TEHRAN: Trkiye and Iran are intensifying efforts to achieve a bilateral trade target of $30 billion, according to Turkish Trade Minister Omer Bolat. His announcement came following a meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian during his visit to Tehran for the 29th Meeting of the Trkiye-Iran Joint Economic Cooperation Commission. According to Anadolu Agency, Bolat stated that Trkiye is keen on renewing its energy agreement with Iran. In a statement released by the Iranian Presidency, Bolat emphasized the importance of modernizing border gates to facilitate customs trade between the two nations, highlighting plans to open two additional border gates with Iran. He also mentioned initiatives to strengthen border crossings and markets. Bolat expressed a desire to revive the preferential trade agreement signed with Iran in 2015 and to implement a comprehensive agreement on tourism. Meanwhile, President Pezeshkian reiterated the importance of bolstering relations between Islamic countries, a topic also disc ussed with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Pezeshkian advocated for resolving issues amicably to enhance the collective strength of the Islamic world, suggesting that sharing resources-from trade markets to transportation routes-would mutually benefit Islamic nations.
