ISTANBUL: Trkiye's benchmark stock index, BIST 100, opened the new year on a positive note, starting at 9,858.10 points on Thursday. This marks an increase of 0.28%, or 27.54 points, from the previous close, signaling a strong beginning for the market in 2025.
According to Anadolu Agency, the last trading day of 2024 saw the BIST 100 index drop by 0.6% to 9,830.56 points. The day concluded with a transaction volume of 86 billion Turkish liras, approximately $2.43 billion. Despite this end-of-year dip, the index recorded a significant gain of over 31% throughout 2024, rising from 7,470.18 points at the end of 2023.
As of 10:00 am local time (0700 GMT), the exchange rates for the Turkish lira stood at 35.3710 against the US dollar, 36.6565 against the euro, and 44.3210 against the British pound. These rates reflect the ongoing fluctuations in currency values that are impacting the Turkish economy.
