Washington: US President-elect Donald Trump intends to take action both to ensure continued access to TikTok and to safeguard users' data, according to his incoming national security advisor. "TikTok itself is a fantastic platform," Mike Waltz told Fox News in a Wednesday interview. "The algorithm is amazing. We're going to find a way to preserve it but protect people's data," he added, referring to a US law requiring its Chinese owners to sell the platform to US owners or it will be banned, over security concerns.

According to Anadolu Agency, on those security concerns, Waltz added: "We certainly don't want the Chinese government seeing all their data and passwords." The law restricting TikTok's operations in the US is set to take effect on Sunday if its parent company, Chinese-based owner ByteDance, does not transfer ownership or if it is not saved by a last-minute court ruling. The proposed measures aim to address national security concerns over potential data sharing with Chinese authorities, claims ByteDance denies.

Trump opposes the ban and has asked the Supreme Court to conduct an emergency review of the measure. In his first term as president from 2017 to 2021, Trump favored a ban but reversed his stance when a partial owner of ByteDance also became one of his campaign contributors.
