Moscow: Russia banned livestock product imports from the EU countries due to foot-and-mouth disease outbreak, the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision (Rosselkhoznadzor) announced on Friday.

According to Anadolu Agency, Rosselkhoznadzor stated that the measures taken by the European Commission against the foot-and-mouth disease outbreak on the continent were insufficient. The import ban will be effective as of Jan. 20.

Farms, zoos, and animal parks in Berlin were closed on Jan. 12 after foot-and-mouth disease was detected in a herd of buffaloes in the German state of Brandenburg.

South Korea and the Netherlands also banned some livestock imports from Germany following the foot-and-mouth outbreak.
