Moscow: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian met with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin shortly after touching down in Moscow to discuss strategic partnerships and enhancing cooperation across various sectors.
According to Anadolu Agency, the meeting took place at the Kremlin, where President Vladimir Putin emphasized the significance of a comprehensive strategic partnership agreement between Russia and Iran. He highlighted its potential to enhance practical cooperation across multiple sectors. "Your visit today is particularly important. Not only will we discuss all areas of our cooperation, but we will also sign a foundational agreement between Russia and Iran on a comprehensive strategic partnership," Putin stated.
Pezeshkian's official visit commenced with his arrival at Moscow's Vnukovo-2 airport, where he was received by Russian senior officials. Russian television broadcast the Iranian president's arrival live, showcasing the formal reception led by Energy Minister Sergei Tsivilev. The welcoming delegation also included Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko and Igor Bogdashev, director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Department of State Protocol.
The meeting between the two leaders is expected to culminate in the signing of a comprehensive strategic partnership agreement, marking a new phase of bilateral cooperation. President Putin noted that the document had been in development for a considerable time and expressed satisfaction over its completion, stating, "I am very pleased that this work has been completed. It is significant because it provides the opportunity to strengthen almost every aspect of our collaboration."
President Pezeshkian reciprocated the positive outlook, expressing optimism that the agreement would serve as "a solid foundation for moving forward." He reiterated his commitment to overcoming obstacles to finalize the deal and described Iran-Russia relations as "strategic and comprehensive," referring to Russia as "a brotherly and friendly country." Pezeshkian also conveyed hope that discussions with Putin would advance agreements related to building nuclear power plants in Iran.
