Astana: Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Thursday emphasized the significance of strengthening political cooperation with Kazakhstan during his official visit to the Central Asian nation. "Further deepening our political cooperation through various formats is equally very important," Kobakhidze stated in discussions with Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

According to Anadolu Agency, Kobakhidze highlighted the strong historical and traditional ties between the two countries, emphasizing that enhancing the partnership with Kazakhstan is a priority for Georgia's foreign policy. He expressed gratitude to Tokayev for Kazakhstan's support of Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The statement from the Georgian government further underlined Georgia's strategic role as a transit hub and the importance of collaboration to boost connectivity and develop the Middle Corridor. The Middle Corridor, also known as the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, is a critical network aimed at reviving the ancient Silk Road by linking Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan, the Caspian Sea, Central Asia, and China.

Kazakh President Tokayev acknowledged Georgia as a key partner for Kazakhstan and praised the country's recent economic achievements, noting its 9.4% economic growth last year. Tokayev expressed Kazakhstan's keen interest in Georgia's development.

The Georgian government disclosed that a delegation led by Kobakhidze had commenced its visit to Kazakhstan on Wednesday. During the visit, Kobakhidze also engaged in discussions with Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov.
