Paris: The French president on Tuesday emphasized the need for artificial intelligence (AI) to be equally accessible to all countries, rejecting 'any subjugation' from the fast-moving technology. 'We do not want any subjugation and we want just and open access to these innovations for the entire planet,' Emmanuel Macron told an AI summit that started Monday in Paris. He added that building trust in AI and its spread is a challenge for governments, civil society, investors, and private actors.

According to Anadolu Agency, Macron warned that breaking this trust could lead AI to divide the world, potentially resulting in its rejection by various sectors and citizens. He stressed the importance of ensuring individual privacy, security against cyber threats and misinformation, and creativity. 'We want a framework that prevents AI from being used for mass control or destruction,' Macron explained, emphasizing the need for AI to serve humanity.

The president highlighted the international community's challenge to embrace technological transformations and master AI's implications across sectors, advocating for open dialogue. The presence of global leaders, researchers, and entrepreneurs at the summit, he noted, facilitates dialogue and collective progress. The event, co-chaired with India, gathers representatives from over 80 countries to address AI's ethical, political, and economic challenges, featuring high-profile attendees such as Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US Vice President JD Vance.

Additionally, Macron announced an investment of £109 billion ($112 billion) in AI over the coming years, underscoring France's commitment to advancing AI technology responsibly.
