Gaza City: Palestinian resistance group Hamas called on Thursday for the upcoming Arab summit and a pan-Islamic ministerial meeting to reject U.S. President Donald Trump's proposal to displace Palestinians from Gaza.

According to Anadolu Agency, Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem expressed appreciation for the opposition from nations such as Egypt, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia against Trump's forced displacement plan. He emphasized the need for a firm stand from the Arab summit scheduled for February 27 and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) ministerial meeting to develop a joint Arab-Islamic strategy to counter the proposal.

Qassem criticized Trump's comments on displacement, highlighting an alignment with far-right elements in the Israeli government. Trump's proposal, which includes seizing control of Gaza and resettling Palestinians in neighboring countries to create what he describes as "the Riviera of the Middle East," has faced widespread condemnation from Palestinians, several Arab nations, and countries including Canada, France, Germany, and the UK.

In a gesture of solidarity, Egypt announced on Tuesday its intention to propose a plan to rebuild Gaza without displacing its population. Qassem also noted potential threats to the ceasefire and prisoner exchange deal due to the Israeli government's reluctance to fully honor its commitments.

Hamas reiterated its commitment to the agreement and stated that it would proceed with the next planned hostage release on Saturday, contingent on Israel's adherence to the ceasefire terms. The agreement has been in effect since January 19, halting an Israeli offensive that resulted in over 48,200 deaths, predominantly among women and children, and left Gaza devastated.

Israel's blockade of Gaza, ongoing for 18 years, has created severe humanitarian challenges, turning the area into a heavily restricted zone with significant shortages of essential resources.
