Paris: French President Emmanuel Macron announced on Thursday that he recently engaged in a discussion with Syria's leader, which he described as 'fruitful, ambitious, and demanding.' Speaking at the conclusion of the International Conference on Syria in Paris, Macron reflected on the historical changes in Syria and the perseverance of its people.

According to Anadolu Agency, Macron emphasized the brutal nature of the former Assad regime and the resilience of the Syrian people who bravely opposed oppression in 2011. He expressed admiration for their determination amidst severe violence and highlighted the need for international solidarity, especially for the millions of displaced Syrians.

"We are ready to do our part. Fundamentally, we want to forge a partnership with Syria to give you every chance of success," Macron declared. He acknowledged the significant role played by neighboring countries such as Lebanon, Jordan, Trkiye, and Iraq, which have provided refuge to millions of Syrians.

Macron reiterated France's commitment to combating terrorism in Syria and offered full support to Syria's efforts against groups like ISIS (Daesh). He emphasized the necessity for Syria to continue fighting terrorist organizations that threaten regional stability.

The French president concluded by reaffirming France's ongoing support for the Syrian Democratic Forces, underscoring their importance in the fight against terrorism. He stressed the integration of these forces into Syria's transition for enhancing the country's security and stability, pledging France's assistance in ensuring Syria's sovereignty and security.

Meanwhile, Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares, attending the Paris Conference on Syria, voiced Spain's backing for a peaceful transition in Syria. He praised the initial steps taken by the new administration and affirmed Spain's commitment to supporting this process.

Greek Foreign Minister Yorgos Yerapetritis, speaking to public broadcaster ERT, highlighted the critical need for humanitarian aid in Syria and the establishment of orderly institutions following the Assad regime's fall. He emphasized the importance of the new Syrian regime respecting international laws and being inclusive of all communities, including Christians. Greece, he stated, will continue to engage in discussions on Syria's future.
