Beijing: China on Monday declared that its growing relations with the European Union (EU) are set to offer 'more stability to the turbulent world', amidst rising tensions between the 27-nation bloc and the United States.

According to Anadolu Agency, Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun addressed reporters in Beijing, emphasizing the international community's increasing desire for peace and stability in the face of rising unilateralism and protectionism. The spokesman articulated that the world now more than ever anticipates a healthy and stable China-EU relationship, envisioning both as constructive forces in a rapidly changing global landscape.

This statement from Beijing emerges against the backdrop of escalating tensions between the EU and the Donald Trump administration concerning the ongoing war in Ukraine, NATO, and issues related to trade and technology. Guo highlighted that the upcoming 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and the EU in 2025 presents an opportunity for both parties to reinforce their partnership. He stressed the importance of enhancing strategic communication, coordinated cooperation, and upholding multilateralism to collectively address global challenges.

Guo further commented on the imposition of tariffs by the US, reiterating China's stance against trade wars and tariff wars, which he believes harm the common interests of all nations. Additionally, in response to US President Donald Trump's assertion that the BRICS bloc was "dead," Guo defended the relevance of BRICS, describing it as a significant platform for cooperation among emerging markets and developing countries. He underscored that the BRICS nations prioritize openness, inclusiveness, cooperation, and mutually beneficial outcomes, steering clear of confrontations and focusing on shared development and prosperity.
