Ankara: France's president announced an increase in orders for Rafale fighter jets as part of efforts to enhance the nation's defense capabilities, particularly in the context of potential changes in the US military presence in Europe.

According to Anadolu Agency, Emmanuel Macron emphasized the urgency of this decision, stating that it is imperative under the current circumstances. Speaking at Luxeuil-les-Bains Airbase in eastern France, Macron highlighted the strategic importance of the Rafale program in reinforcing 'French nuclear deterrence.'

Macron detailed plans for Luxeuil Airbase, announcing substantial investments aimed at accommodating two additional Rafale squadrons. This expansion is expected to double the base's capacity, reaching nearly 2,000 personnel by 2035. The president outlined a £1.5 billion ($1.6 billion) investment to modernize the facility, ensuring it can support the next version of the Rafale equipped with hypersonic nuclear missiles.

Macron underscored the significance of defense readiness and deterrence in securing the nation. He expressed a commitment to ensuring that France is prepared for future uncertainties, reinforcing national security as a primary objective.
