Senior Russian Negotiator Engages in Talks with Trump Representatives in Washington

Washington: A senior Russian negotiator on Thursday announced that he is holding talks in Washington with representatives of US President Donald Trump's administration. Kirill Dmitriev, Russia's special envoy for foreign investment and economic cooperation, disclosed the commencement of these discussions via Telegram, noting that the talks began on Wednesday at the behest of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

According to Anadolu Agency, Dmitriev emphasized the critical nature of the dialogue between Russia and the United States, which he claims was severely damaged during the administration of former US President Joe Biden. The envoy highlighted the presence of "numerous forces" that are interested in maintaining global tensions and are obstructing the path to constructive dialogue across various nations.

Dmitriev further accused these forces of deliberately misrepresenting Russia's stance and attempting to thwart any progress toward dialogue, using extensive means and resources to do so. He stressed that those opposing closer ties fear a potential understanding and cooperation between Russia and the US, both politically and economically.

The Russian envoy acknowledged the challenges involved in restoring dialogue, describing it as a difficult and gradual process. Nonetheless, he expressed optimism that each meeting and open conversation contributes to progress. Dmitriev asserted that a genuine understanding of Russia's position could pave the way for constructive interaction, particularly in the realms of investment and economic cooperation.
