Washington: US President Donald Trump stated on Wednesday that China is keen to finalize a trade deal, though uncertainties remain regarding the timing, following the US decision to increase tariffs on Chinese imports to 125%.

According to Anadolu Agency, Trump made these remarks while speaking in front of the White House, welcoming a group of race car drivers ahead of the 2025 Daytona 500. He emphasized the enthusiasm from various countries, including China, to secure a trade agreement. "China wants to make a deal. They just don't know how quick to go about it," Trump noted, expressing confidence that Chinese President Xi Jinping would find a resolution.

Trump also mentioned his anticipation of forging trade agreements with other nations, ensuring they are equitable for all parties involved. He criticized previous trade terms for being detrimental to the US, saying, "They were sucking us dry. you can't do that anymore."

These comments followed Trump's announcement of a significant tariff increase on Chinese imports, which he justified by citing Beijing's "lack of respect" for global market norms. Additionally, he introduced a 90-day pause and reduced reciprocal tariffs of 10% for countries other than China.
