Abu Dhabi: Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa departed for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Sunday, marking his first official visit to Abu Dhabi since he took office in January. This visit is seen as a significant step in Syria's regional diplomatic efforts following the political changes in the country.

According to Anadolu Agency, President Al-Sharaa's visit to the UAE is part of his broader diplomatic mission in the region. The Syrian leader has already visited Saudi Arabia, Trkiye, Egypt, and Jordan as part of this initiative. Accompanying him is Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shaibani, who emphasized the importance of strengthening ties and cooperation with regional partners.

The visit follows the collapse of the Bashar al-Assad regime, which had been in power for nearly 25 years. Assad fled to Russia on December 8, leading to the dissolution of the long-standing Baath Party's regime. The transitional Syrian administration was declared on January 29, 2025, and has since disbanded the constitution, security services, armed factions, the Baath Party, and parliament.
