Beijing: Beijing on Monday hosted the first joint ministerial meeting of foreign and defense ministers of China and Indonesia, Xinhua News reported. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Defense Minister Dong Jun hosted the meeting in Beijing alongside Indonesia's Foreign Minister Sugiono and Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin.

According to Anadolu Agency, the meeting highlights the strong strategic mutual trust between the two countries and further deepens the meaning of a China-Indonesia community, Wang Yi said. Dong Jun stated that China is ready to work with Indonesia to build a new model of defense and security cooperation characterized by deeper mutual trust and stronger coordination in addressing common challenges.

Sugiono emphasized Indonesia's willingness to collaborate with China to increase political trust, improve multi-level exchanges, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, and strengthen coordination within multilateral frameworks. Sjafrie expressed Indonesia's readiness to strengthen cooperation with China in areas such as defense and maritime security to uphold regional peace and stability.

The two sides had extensive discussions on international and regional issues of mutual interest, according to the news agency. Following the meeting, the two foreign ministers signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish a comprehensive strategic dialogue mechanism between the two governments. During the meeting, the two sides also signed agreements on cooperation in maritime security and other sectors.
