Seoul: Opposition candidate Lee Jae-myung maintains a convincing lead among the contenders for South Korea's June 3 snap presidential election, a poll showed Monday.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Democratic Party (DP) candidate led the poll with 48.5%, down 1.7 percentage points from last week, as per a survey conducted by Realmeter of 1,505 adults aged over 18. Despite a slight dip in support, which saw Lee fall below the crucial 50% mark, he continues to be the clear front-runner in the presidential race. This decline in support is attributed to uncertainty surrounding the outcome of an election law violation case.

Trailing behind Lee is former Labor Minister Kim Moon-soo of the ruling People Power Party (PPP), who garnered 13.4% in the poll. Other notable candidates include former Daegu Mayor Hong Joon-pyo and ex-PPP leader Han Dong-hoon, who received 10.2% and 9.7% support, respectively.

In terms of party support, the Democratic Party received 46.8%, maintaining a lead over the People Power Party, which secured 34.6% support. The snap presidential election was called following the removal of former President Yoon Suk Yeol from office over a failed martial law bid.
