Carlsberg CEO Reports Danish Boycott Impact on Coca-Cola Sales

Copenhagen: The Danish public is currently engaging in a boycott of Coca-Cola, as confirmed by the company responsible for bottling the renowned US brand in Denmark.

According to Anadolu Agency, CEO Jacob Aarup-Andersen informed investors that Coca-Cola's sales volumes have experienced a slight decline in Denmark. He emphasized that Denmark is the only market where such a significant consumer boycott of US brands is occurring. Aarup-Andersen stated that while the boycott has not drastically impacted sales, it has allowed smaller local brands to gain market share against US products.

The CEO expressed neutrality regarding the boycott, stating, "We fully respect people's decisions." He also highlighted that both Pepsi and Coca-Cola are produced by Danish brewery workers in Danish facilities, thus considering them as Danish brands from their perspective.

The boycott was fueled by comments from US President Donald Trump regarding his interest in acquiring Greenland, a Danish territory. Trump's statement, "We need Greenland ... for international security. We have to have Greenland," was made on March 28, leading to tensions. Additionally, US Vice-President JD Vance criticized Denmark the following day, accusing the country of not being a "good ally."

Coca-Cola's sales have been declining in recent years due to boycotts, especially in Muslim-majority countries, over alleged affiliations with Israel's actions in Gaza. Financial results released on Tuesday revealed a 2% drop in the company's revenues for the first quarter of 2025, totaling $11.1 billion.
