Rome: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan urged Italian companies to view Trkiye as a strategic gateway to Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, akin to how Turkish companies consider Italy as a gateway to Europe. Erdogan made these remarks during a business forum in Rome, emphasizing the mutual benefits of this partnership.

According to Anadolu Agency, Erdogan highlighted that despite regional conflicts, wars, and the devastating earthquake of 2023, Trkiye's economy continues to grow. He mentioned that the global economic climate is increasingly characterized by protectionism and inward focus, particularly with customs tariffs. Trkiye, he said, is working to manage these dynamics effectively and sees potential opportunities within these challenges.

Erdogan expressed confidence in Trkiye's ability to navigate these challenges successfully, as it did during the COVID-19 pandemic. He reiterated Ankara's commitment to its economic program, which includes improving the investment climate and implementing structural reforms.

The Turkish president also underscored the importance of boosting joint efforts, especially in the expanding security and defense sector in Europe. He pointed out the significance of the upcoming 3rd Term Meeting of the Trkiye-Italy Joint Economic and Trade Committee, scheduled before the end of 2025, and stressed the need to update the Customs Union with the EU to better align with changing global economic conditions.

Erdogan called for support from the Italian government and business circles to update trade agreements under a win-win approach. He noted that visa-related challenges for business communities are hindering economic relations and urged the Italian business community to address this issue with EU institutions. Concluding his remarks, Erdogan expressed optimism that the business forum would lead to new ventures and strong partnerships.
