Berlin: Germany's wholesale prices rose by 0.8% on a yearly basis in April, a federal statistical office statement said on Thursday. This increase follows previous rises of 1.3% in March and 1.6% in February, as reported by Destatis.
According to Anadolu Agency, the main factor contributing to the rise in April's wholesale prices was the higher cost of food, beverages, and tobacco, with a notable 4.6% increase compared to April 2024. Specifically, the prices of coffee, tea, cocoa, and spices saw a significant 32.2% climb from the previous year.
The report also indicated that the prices of sugar, confectionery, and bakery products increased by 16.6%, while milk, milk products, eggs, edible fats, and oils were 9.1% higher than a year earlier. Conversely, the wholesale prices for solid fuels and mineral oil products declined by 8.4% from April 2024 levels.
Additionally, there were reductions in the prices of computers and peripheral equipment, which decreased by 5.8%, and iron, steel, and ferrous semi-finished metal products, which saw a 4.4% drop. Despite these yearly changes, on a monthly basis, wholesale prices in April decreased by 0.1%, falling short of expectations for a 0.2% rise.
